The solar plant was built as part of Alpha Grainger’s green initiative to offset their manufacturing plants high usage of energy with clean renewable energy and is set for completion in May of 2010.

Satcon Solstice leverages string level power conversion and energy harvest optimization that is integrated as a complete system with an optimized centralized inverter. With peak efficiencies above 98% and a proprietary two stage DC architecture, Solstice increases the overall energy yield of solar installations by 5%-12% while at the same time reducing the overall balance of system installed cost by 20-25%, the company said.

Lawrence Hurwitz, CEO of Broadway Electrical, said: “Broadway Electrical is committed to providing our customers solar PV systems utilizing the most reliable and innovative solutions on the market so they will in turn deliver the most cost effective, highest performing and most dependable renewable energy for decades.”

The Alpha Grainger site will utilize 1500 roof mounted panels and four of the Satcon Solstice 100kW solutions, integrated with sixteen Solstice SSB combiner boxes which house the string level DC to DC conversion, maximum power point tracking, performance management and system communications technologies.
