The newly constructed combined-cycle plant, called York Energy Center, is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 450,000 residential customers.

According to Calpine, the power plant is fitted with advanced emissions control technologies and will produce power for Constellation Energy under a six-year tolling deal beginning 1 June 2011.

Until then, Calpine will sell the electricity generated by the facility into the PJM wholesale power market.

The company acquired the power plant in 2010 from Pepco.
