The Pastoria power plant, which has a power generation capacity of 724MW, was decreased by approximately 515MW on June 28, 2009.

The Pastoria combined cycle power facility is situated on the property leased from Tejon Ranch, which is at Lebec in Kern County about 30 miles south of Bakersfield, California.

The plant includes two heat recovery steam turbines with 169MW and 87MW capacities and three combustion turbines each with 156MW of capacity. One MW of power supplied can serve around 700 homes in California.

The company intends to add a simple-cycle, gas-fired combustion turbine at the power plant with 160MW capacity, which would cost around $100m to $200m. If constructed, the unit is expected to commence its operations in 2011.

Calpine engages in the ownership and operation of approximately 24,000MW of production capacity in operation and under construction, and also sells energy commodities in North America.
