Additionally, the partnership has also signed an agreement to process bitumen supplied by the Alberta government under the bitumen royalty-in-kind (BRIK) initiative.

The phase one will process 50,000bbl/d of bitumen to finished products and will incorporate an integrated CO2 management solution, subject to the sanctioning of the project following the detailed engineering of the refinery.

The facility can be expanded in two additional identical phases of 50,000bbl/d 50,000bbl/d of bitumen at a future date.

However, Canadian Natural has agreed to provide 12,500bbl/d of bitumen to phase one of the facility.
