The 96kW project in Gursu municipality of Bursa, which has direct support of the office of the Turkish Prime Minister, will employ Canadian Solar’s CS6P-P modules.

Gehrlicher Merk Solar, the project developer is a Turkish joint venture of Gehrlicher Solar and Merk Solar Enerji.

Gehrlicher Merk Solar CEO Omer Cihan Karahan remarked that the project was an important step towards greater energy independence of Turkey and the development of more solar energy projects in the region.

"After a long and careful decision making process and the evaluation of the offers of 13 different solar module manufacturers, we chose Canadian Solar due to the excellent customer service, proven quality and performance of their products," added Karahan.

Canadian Solar chairman and CEO Dr Shawn Qu also expressed confidence on the project being a stepping stone to future business development in Turkey.

The company has previous experience of working in the country, having supplied modules for a 45kW solar rooftop plant.
