Capstone Turbine Corp has begun commercial production of recuperator cores. The company had previously relied on Solar Turbines for its recuperators but last September Capstone announced a licensing agreement to make the Solar-designed component. The recuperator captures heat from the turbine exhaust and returns it to the air intake, increasing energy efficiency in a turbine system. In the case of the Capstone microturbine it doubles efficiency. The company views the move as strategic to its future, eliminating supply restrictions and eliminating single source reliance.
