Carbon Energy CEO Morné Engelbrecht said the Carbon Energy’s UCG keyseam technology was introduced by CSIRO for developing low emission, safe, and environment friendly ways of better converting coal to energy.

"Today we commence the next step to demonstrate a commercial UCG operation can be operated in an environmentally safe way through application of Carbon Energy’s UCG keyseam technology," Engelbrecht added.

The company will collect cavity water and core samples for analysis to facilitate development of a decommissioning plan for the final phase of the UCG life-cycle.

Carbon Energy selected BlueSphere Environmental to develop detailed sampling and analysis specifications, including requirements for both rock core and liquid samples, while meeting most stringent environmental standards.

BlueSphere Environmental will also help in the analysis of the samples and development of any required remediation program.
Carbon Energy’s trial UCG Panel 2 is located at the Bloodwood Creek site in the Surat basin in Queensland, Australia.
