The plan has been produced by the Carbon Lite Working Group, which consists of both the Council and a number of external members. It provides a foundation to continue the work already being undertaken by both Council service areas and stakeholders.

The council said that engaging the community of Cardiff, further reduction of energy use in existing and new buildings, increasing both recycling and composting, increasing the use of sustainable modes of transport and increasing the percentage of renewable energy are just some of the key areas highlighted in the Action Plan. Monitoring will be carried out by the Carbon Lite Working Group.

By agreeing to sign the EU Covenant of Mayors, the council is also improving its partnership working within Carbon Lite Cardiff and committing itself to a number of other objectives that will continue to progress sustainable development in all aspects of life across the city.

A Sustainable Energy Action Plan must be produced by the council, along with the creation of a number of Energy Days, in partnership with both the EU and other stakeholders. These are based around further engagement with the community and will aid work already being undertaken as part of the Carbon Lite Cardiff Action Plan.
