The unit will utilise CB&I’s CATOFIN dehydrogenation technology and tailor-made CATOFIN catalyst of Clariant to process feeds comprising 165,000 metric tons per year (MTA) of propane and 250,000 MTA of iso-butane for the joint production of propylene and isobutylene.

CB&I technology operating group president Daniel McCarthy said the new CATOFIN unit will enable Shandong Sincier to process cost effective LPG feedstocks.

"This project award demonstrates the flexibility of the CATOFIN technology and catalyst to allow customers to co-process multiple feed compositions at optimal conditions for the highest yields with proven operational reliability," McCarthy added.

Propylene and isobutylene will be used as building blocks to manufacture different plastics and solvents.
