CB&I, which is part of a joint venture led by Petrofac International, along with Samsung Engineering will execute the Mina Abdullah I refinery project.

As part of the deal, CB&I will provide engineering and procurement for two atmospheric residue desulfurisation units that were previously licensed by Chevron Lummus Global, a joint venture of CB&I and Chevron.

KNPC is upgrading the Mina Abdullah and Mina Al-Ahmadi refineries to increase production capacity to around 800,000 BPSD from the current 736,000 BPSD.

CB&I engineering, construction and maintenance operating group Patrick Mullen said the award builds on company’s proven experience in the refining industry.

"The installation of these units will reduce sulfur, enhancing the ability of Kuwaiti petroleum products to compete on the world market and meet stringent international environmental regulations," Mullen added.
