As reported, the move would help increase power supply in the country’s Eastern Cape province and beyond. CDC is expected to complete a feasibility study for the $4 billion power project this week. It would also seek out expressions of interest from developers by the end of 2009.

Khwezi Tiya, executive manager of business development at CDC, told Reuters: “We are planning to go to the market for the expression of interest before the end of this year so that within 2010 the preferred bidder can be appointed.”

CDC initially planned to start the construction of the power plant in mid-2012, with the first power to be supplied by the end of 2013. However, the timelines may shift slightly.
