CELSE, which is a consortium formed by eBRASIL and Golar Power, is developing the Porto de Sergipe plant, which will supplement hydropower supplies during dry weather seasons.

In its role, Black & Veatch will monitor the cost and schedule performance of the engineering, procurement and construction contractor, as well as carry out technical review of design and equipment.

The company’s oversight will result in project quality and scheduling certainty in all phases of the installation.

The plant will include three General Electric’s 7HA .02 advanced technology gas turbines. They offer increased efficiency with reduced emissions and will be first to be introduced in South America.

The turbines will be fuelled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) which will be delivered through a new floating natural gas storage and as part of the project, a regasification facility is being constructed.

The construction of the power plant is scheduled to begin this November and is expected to be completed and commissioned in late 2019.

Black & Veatch Power business president Ed Walsh said: “Black & Veatch is bringing its global knowledge and experience in advanced combined cycle projects.

“We are focused on helping to deliver this project on time and on budget in support of CELSE’s goal to provide clean, efficient and reliable electricity to the people of Brazil.”
