Customers may turn in their old, working air conditioners at participating Hudson Valley Sears locations for recycling, and receive a $50 or $100 rebate toward the purchase of a new Energy Star model window or through-the-wall air conditioner, respectively.

Central Hudson customers are eligible to recycle and receive rebates for up to four air conditioners per residential account. The Sears location will continue to accept units till September 15, 2010, and customers may also drop off units and receive a rebate at the participating Sears locations in Kingston and Newburgh between June 15 and September 15, 2010.

Residential customers are also offered rebates of $1,000 per ton for the installation of geothermal heating and cooling systems, also known as ground-source heat pumps. A typical residential installation is 3 to 4 tons, or more.

Beginning July 1, 2010, and running through December 31, 2011, Central Hudson will offer a recycling incentive for older, working refrigerators and freezers.

These incentives join Central Hudson’s family of electric energy efficiency programs for residents and small and mid-size businesses, government and other non-residential facilities.

Charles Freni, senior vice president of customer services at Central Hudson, said: ”This recycling program reduces waste by encouraging our customers to replace their inefficient air conditioners with newer models that use less energy and better protect the environment, while ensuring their old units are properly recycled.”
