CEZ noted that it enlisted in the tender for a 49% stake in the Belene Power Company in June 2007. It submitted its indicative bid in October 2007.

NEK is expected to decide on the next steps on the basis of the indicative bid assessment. In October 2006, NEK selected Russian company Atomstrojexport as the general contractor for the Belene nuclear power pant.

The project is estimated to be worth E4 billion and includes the construction of two 1000MW units with third-generation VVER (pressurized water reactor) type reactors.
