The proposed wind power facility, spread over an area of around 3,000 acres, which will employ 90 wind turbines, is expected to generate 153MW of clean power.

Of all the wind turbines, 45 wind turbines will jointly be supervised by four other tribes on their 3,000-acre half.

PNE Wind USA director Ellen Wesley said that the proposed wind farm, when completed, will be the largest wind power facility on the country’s tribal land.

"The Cherokee Nation will own half of the project, which is significant because usually they are private owners. We’re thrilled to have the Cherokees as a partner in this endeavor. It’s a win for the land and the people," added Wesley.

Meanwhile, the proposed wind power project is expected to generate $16m over the next 20 years.
