Chevron installed concentrating photovoltaic technology, which uses lenses to collect and focus direct sunlight onto layers of high efficiency cells, on the tailing site of the company’s molybdenum mine in Questa.

The Questa solar field covers approximately 20 acres and includes 173 solar trackers, each about 18 feet by 21ft in size.

The field includes Soitec’s concentrating photovoltaic solar system, which has the capacity to generate 1MW of electricity, enough to power about 300 Mexican homes.

Chevron Mining signed a power purchase agreement with Kit Carson Electric Cooperative to sell the electricity produced by the solar facility.
