As part of the project, the company will start construction on a 2.3MW solar system at the wastewater plant from April 2014, with expected completion by end of the year.

The scope of the project also includes conversion of lighting at city buildings, parks and traffic intersections to energy-efficient LED lighting, in addition to other energy efficiency enhancements.

Decreasing the county’s annual energy costs by 35%, the latest project would also curb around five million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

The latest deal marks the second project undertaken by the company in Hanford, upon the completion of a 1MW solar project at the city’s wastewater treatment plant last year, which would offer $12m savings in energy costs.
