The company has contracted a local company to bring the fire damaged crude oil unit at the refinery back to operations.

Chevron is expecting the refinery to be start producing at its full capacity in the first quarter of 2013.

Operations at the 245,000 barrel per day refinery were halted following a major fire at the plant on 6 August 2012. Ever since, the refinery was being operated at 60% of its capacity.

Chevron downstream and chemicals operations executive vice president Mike Wirth said the crude oil unit at the refinery remains offline.

"We have an expected startup during the first quarter of 2013," Wirth added.

The company will continue with its investigations into what caused the thinning of a crucial pipe which led to the fire at the crude unit of the refinery.
