Drilled in 2,880ft of water to a depth of 15,469ft, the exploration well in the WA-205-P permit encountered approximately 896ft of net gas pay.

Chevron’s Australian subsidiary operates the WA-205-P permit and holds a combined 67% interest, while Shell Development (Australia) holds the remaining interest.

Chevron vice chairman George Kirkland said that in terms of net gas pay, Acme-1 is a significant natural gas discovery in Australia, and it is the company’s ninth and largest offshore discovery in Western Australia in the last 12 months.
