Located in the south of Los Angeles, the refinery’s equipment related to the fluid catalytic cracker was damaged due to the fire, reported Bloomberg.

The fire damaged the selective catalytic reduction plant, which takes out particulates from gas produced by the catalytic cracker.

The blaze also resulted in power failure at the oil refinery which resulted in slowdown of many other units at the plant.

Chevron was planning for a 54 day maintenance shut down at the refinery including the alkylation unit, according to the news agency.

The alkylation units produce a high-octane blending component for gasoline whereas the fluid catalytic crackers process vacuum gasoil into gasoline or lighter crude products.

The crude oil processing plant has a processing capacity of 285,000 barrels of feedstock a day and producing gasoline, jet fuel, and diesel as the primary products.
