The tariff reduction reflect a fall in coal prices and also encourage renewable power generation, Reuters reports citing Chinese utility, SDIC Power .

The price cuts at multiple power plants would range from around 0.01 yuan per KWh to 0.025 yuan/KWh, as disclosed by the company to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

Meanwhile, the move will not have any effect on retail power prices.

The price cut will represent the first time reduction in China’s thermal power on-grid tariffs, since November 2009, as reported earlier by ChinaScope Financial.
