Wang Fan, an analyst with Ping An Securities, said that China’s central government would grant CNY400 million of budget for renewable energy sector in 2009. The fund can finance a maximum of 20 megawatt solar PV projects.

China plans to build a number of demonstration solar PV projects, mainly solar PV roof projects and PV curtains in large and midsize cities as well as off-grid solar PV power stations in rural and remote areas.

The government claims that subsidies are only given to those solar PV projects whose single installed capacity exceeds 50 kWp.

Meanwhile, the conversion efficiency of monosilicon, polysilicon and non-crystalline PV products are required to be 16%, 14% and 6%, respectively.

Priorities will be given to building integrated photovoltaics projects, on-grid solar PV application projects, and solar PV projects with schools, hospitals, governmental institutions and public buildings.

The subsidies for each watt-peak of solar PV projects are varied based on the various conditions, and the subsidy standard will be adjusted annually.

An insider said that the solar PV industry would have 100% growth once the governmental subsidy is announced for commercial solar PV projects.
