The companies include Pathfinder Renewable Wind Energy, Magnum Energy, Dresser-Rand and Duke-American Transmission.

The project includes construction of one of the world’s biggest energy storage facilities in Utah, one of the country’s largest wind farms in Wyoming, and a 525-mile electric transmission line connecting the two sites.

Pathfinder Renewable will build, own and operate the $4bn wind farm, which is expected to generate 2,100MW of electricity, near Chugwater, Wyoming.

Magnum Energy, Pathfinder Renewable and Dresser-Rand will install the $1.5bon compressed air energy storage system at a site near Delta, Utah, 130 miles southwest of Salt Lake City.

The massive underground energy storage facility is expected to produce 1,200MW of electricity, which is equivalent to the output of a large nuclear power plant and enough to serve an estimated 1.2 million homes.

The $2.6bn 525-mile, high-voltage electric transmission line will be developed by Duke-American Transmission to transport the Wyoming wind farm’s electricity to the Utah energy storage facility.

The proposal will be submitted to the Southern California Public Power Authority by early 2015 by the firms in response to the request for proposals issued by the agency to provide renewable energy and electricity storage for Los Angeles area.
