The aluminum conductor composite core (ACCC) conductor was installed in northwest Spain approximately 35 miles from the city of Santiago de Compostela. The contract was executed by NEO Energia of Sevilla, Spain.

The 69kV line was reconductored with CTC Cable’s Amsterdam-size conductor to double the capacity of the transmission line carrying power from the 80-turbine wind farm to the grid.

The wind farm will expand to 160 turbines and more transmission capacity was needed. The engineering firm chose ACCC conductor to replace the existing conductor because of the increased capacity, reduced sag characteristics and minimal engineering that was required to complete the project.

Marv Sepe, COO of CTC and president of CTC Cable, said: ACCC conductor has been used in dozens of installations around the world. The Spanish installation is a good example of doubling the transmission capacity of a line with minimum cost and impact. A simple reconductoring with our highly engineered product was the cornerstone of the project.
