This sour gas project has been under discussions for several months now. Earlier, it was reported that Royal Dutch Shell and Occidental Petroleum are the front-runners for clinching this deal. Recently, Occidental Petroleum has been told that it is not a finalist.

However, according to unconfirmed statements from the UAE, ConocoPhillips will be winning the deal.

At a time when accessing new resources has become difficult amid growing nationalism in oil-rich countries, securing the contract is expected to be beneficial for any company.

Jim Mulva, Conoco’s chief executive, said: We’re working very hard on this project. Hopefully, there will be an announcement that we will be working together in the next month or two.
