Being built in the towns of Llera de Canales and Casas, the wind facility will feature 45 Vestas-developed V117-3.3MW turbines and will generate 520,000MWh of clean electricity annually, required to power approximately 71,000 homes.

The farm will be connected to the Federal Electricity Commission’s network, as part of the self-supply scheme.

Abengoa is undertaking the engineering and the construction phase of the project for Oak Creek Energy Systems.

According to Vestas, the Tres Mesas project will be one of the largest renewable energy projects in the country and the largest wind farm in Tamaulipas.

Power generated from the wind farm will be sold to Sigma Alimentos and Walmart de México under separate power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Mexico intends to generate at least 35% of its power from renewable resources by 2024, and has eased a number of restrictions in the electricity market.
