With assistance from Rosatom Eastern Europe, Ganz EEM, a Hungarian subsidiary of Rosatom's nuclear engineering division Atomenergomash, is to supply containerized small hydro power plants to Georgia .
The company signed a deal with buyer International Energy Co., Ltd which will see a pilot plant shipped in the first half of 2017, followed by more plants varying in capacity from 0.6MW to 2MW.
Each plant consists of a turbine and a set of auxiliary equipment mounted inside a container. The containerized design drastically reduces lead-in times and costs of construction, says Ganz. The plants can be controlled remotely via (mobile) phone or Internet.
“Small hydro generation is important for Rosatom as a way to diversify its product portfolio,” commented Vladimir Gorn, Deputy Head of Rosatom Eastern Europe. “It is an example of how Rosatom enters new markets and acquires new customers. As a long-standing leader in nuclear power with wind generation projects in its portfolio, Rosatom has proved its technology leadership yet again. The first small hydro generation project is our logical step towards green energy.”

Rusatom International Network is currently negotiating shipments of containerized small hydro plants by Ganz EEM to Armenia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, as well as Latin American, African and other countries.
