The farms were acquired from Energia Eolica through ContourGlobal’s subsidiary ContourGlobal Latam.
Development of the two farms is expected to cost a combined $250m and electricity produced from the wind farms will be sold under a 20-year dollar-denominated long-term power purchase agreements under the Peru’s renewable energy resource program.
ContourGlobal president and CEO Joseph Brandt commented that the projects complement the company’s regional generation and renewable footprint in Brazil and Colombia.
"Cupisnique and Talara bring us into the dynamic and fast growing Peruvian economy whose continued impressive growth requires an increasing supply of reliable and low cost electricity," added Brandt.
Wind turbine manufacturer Vestas will be the turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the two wind farms and are expected to be operational in 2013.
