CSG will use the grant to develop a Multiple Listing Service energy efficiency category for the residential real estate market in New York State, enabling homeowners to evaluate a home’s energy performance before purchasing it.

CSG is one of the nine organizations to receive grants from the foundation that total $2.7m and aim at paving the way for property managers, owners, investors and lenders to undertake retrofits in commercial and residential buildings to improve energy efficiency.

Under this two-year, $348,000 program that is scheduled to begin in November, CSG will work with several Multiple Listing Services, along with other industry stakeholders, such as realtors and builders, to establish an ‘energy efficiency’ category.

In addition to providing consumers with advanced knowledge about a home’s power consumption, CSG expects this new category to encourage sellers to make energy efficiency improvements before putting their homes on the market.

CSG director of applied building science division David Weitz establishing an energy efficiency category, within MLS listings, will help during the selection process by providing homebuyers with an essential piece of information.
