Located in PL435, blocks 6507/7/9 and 6507/8 in the Norwegian Sea, the Dvalin field is planned to be developed with an investment of NOK10bn ($1.2bn).

DEA said that the Dvalin will be its first operated field development project in Norway.

Planned to commence production in 2020, the Dvalin field is estimated to produce approximately 18.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas from two reservoirs.

DEA Norge managing director Hans-Hermann Andreae said: “Together with our partners, we have come up with a development solution with sustainable long term economics in an environment of low market prices.

“Over the last few years we have managed to reduce cost by more than 20%. As a consequence, DEA has got the opportunity to open a new area in the Norwegian Sea for gas production and export.”

The Dvalin field is planned to be developed with a four wells subsea template, which is connected to the Heidrun platform.

Gas produced from the field will be initialed process prior to being transported to the Nyhamna onshore gas terminal.

The terminal will then further process the gas transport it to the European market.

DEA Deutsche Erdoel CEO Thomas Rappuhn said: “The Dvalin development will contribute significantly to DEA’s ambition to further grow our business in Norway.”

The field development plan is subject to the approval from the Norwegian authorities.

DEA Norge operates the PL435 license with 40% stake. Other project partners include Edison, Maersk and OMV each holding 20% interest.
