Dell will provide technology and IT expertise as member to Pecan Street, which is based at the University of Texas, to advance its work in energy big data.
Currently, the organization is conducting consumer energy research in Austin, including electricity and gas use, and solar and electric vehicle integration.

Dell sustainability executive director David Lear noted the research being conducted by Pecan Street will shape the next generation of energy systems.
"Information technology and data management will be crucial to these smarter grids, and Dell is proud to put technology and expertise toward the goal of ensuring our energy future is efficient and sustainable," Lear added.
Pecan Street president and chief executive Brewster McCracken stated, "Dell’s experience in enterprise computing and its leadership in empowering customer solutions that integrate big data and smart grid technologies will be a great resource for Pecan Street."
Dell said smart grids and other information-enabled networks would help consumers, businesses, and utilities use natural resources in a wiser and informed manner.
