The Texas-based company has declared force majeure at that portion of Gulf of Mexico offshore and confirmed its inability to provide service there for at least seven days, reported Reuters.

Started in September 1998, the 255-mile pipeline extends from Viosca Knoll Block 900 to Main Pass Block 260, then north to a processing plant operated by BP-Amoco at Pascagoula, Mississippi.

The pipeline system has production capacity of 1.2 billion cubic feet of gas per day. It delivers natural gas to nine major interstate US pipelines.

It also provides transport services from Main Pass, Viosca Knoll, eastern Mississippi Canyon and DeSoto Canyon areas offshore southeastern Louisiana.

The Destin gas pipeline system is 67% owned by Amoco Destin Pipeline and 33% owned by Enbridge Offshore (Destin).
