The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 3,758m below the sea surface and the objective of the well was to prove petroleum in reservoir rocks from the Triassic Age.
The well, however was encountered reservoir rocks as expected in the Skagerrak formation and will now be permanently plugged and abandoned as a dry well.
It is the first exploration well in production license 497 and the drilling activity took place 25km west of the Ula field.
Well 7/11-13 was drilled by the Maersk Guardian drilling facility, which will now proceed to production licence 498 in the southern part of the North Sea to drill wildcat well 7/8-6 for Lotos Exploration and Production Norge, the company said.
