The company is offering residential and small business customers a 12-month fixed product at 5% below the utility price. While the number of Connecticut customers who are currently served by a non-utility energy provider has been relatively low, Direct Energy expects the figure to rise as residents are presented with new options for choosing a provider that best serves their needs.

Direct Energy has been providing electric and natural gas solutions to more than 2,000 commercial and industrial customers in Connecticut since 2004.

Phillip Tonge, president of North American mass markets energy, said: Entering the Connecticut residential market is an exciting and significant milestone for Direct Energy and Connecticut residents as competition empowers consumers to take control over their choice of energy providers and spending.
