During the quarter the company sold 259,000 carats from its Ekati mine and 582,000 carats from the Diavik mine.

It also sold 100,000 carats that were excluded from overall Ekati sales during the quarter for $6.9m at an average price per carat of $75. These diamonds were produced from the processing of satellite material from the Misery South and Southwest kimberlite pipes.

Ekati mine produced 561,000 carats being 24% ahead of target, while Diavik mine 13% ahead of target with 1.84 million carats, the company said.

Dominion Diamond owns 40% of the Diavik Diamond Mine, which is operated by Diavik Diamond Mines, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto.

The company plans to review production guidance for each mine at the end of the second quarter.
