Wind turbine

Located near Dong Energy’s 312MW Borkum Riffgrund West 1 project, the offshore wind farm will feature 43 turbines that will generate about 215MW of energy.

Construction on the project is expected to start after 2020 if grid connection is approved and the developer will make a final investment decision.

An application for a grid link is anticipated to be submitted in 2017 or 2018.

Dong Energy Wind Power executive vice president Samuel Leupold said: "With the Borkum Riffgrund West 2 project we are now strengthening our post 2020 pipeline.

"Having our other offshore wind project, Borkum Riffgrund West 1 right next to it, there are a number of synergies for the development, construction and operation of this project."

Currently, Dong Energy is building three offshore wind farms in the German North Sea with a combined total capacity of about 900MW.

Apart from Borkum Riffgrund 1, Dong Energy is building the 582MW Gode Wind 1 and 2 in Germany.

Germany is planning to install 15GW of offshore wind by 2030 as part of its transition to a renewable electricity supply.

Dong Energy has to date built 2.5GW of offshore wind with plans for 6.5GW more by 2020.
