The Borkum Riffgrund 1 wind farm will consist of up to 89 turbines, which will be supplied by Siemens Energy.

Each turbine has a generating capacity of 3.6MW and a rotor diameter of 120 meters.

The wind farm is Dong Energy’s first offshore wind project in Germany, and its construction will represent a total investment of about EUR1.25bn.

Siemens will deliver, install and commission the wind turbines over an area of 36 square kilometers and at water depths of as much as 29 meters.

Construction of the wind farm is expected to start in 2013 with first power production in
2014.

The wind project is expected to generate enough electricity to power approximately 330,000 German households.
