Scheduled to be fully commissioned in 2018, the wind project will generate green electricity to power more than 400,000 British households.

As part of this effort, Dong Energy selected Siemens as the preferred supplier of 91 6MW wind turbines and also awarded a contract to UK-based company JDR to supply subsea power cables for the proposed wind project.

JDR will design and manufacture 110km of 36kV inter-array cables and deliver offshore testing and termination services.

Additionally, NKT Cables has been awarded €80m contract for the supply of more than 150km of 220kV high voltage submarine export cables for the project.

Dong Energy executive vice-president Samuel Leupold said: "The Race Bank offshore wind farm is yet another enabler for the growth of the offshore wind supply chain in UK, and the project will create jobs in the UK at all levels of the supply chain.

"The size of this project will enable us to utilize the economies of scale to continue to drive down cost of electricity produced by offshore wind farms."
