As reported, the shutdown of the two power station units will lead to a total reduction of 980MW of power, corresponding to 18% of DONG Energy’s thermal power production capacity and 14% of the company’s total power production capacity at the end of 2009.

Niels Bergh-Hansen, executive vice president of DONG Energy, said: “The two units were selected on the basis of overall assessments of our power station portfolio, including the opportunity to minimise costs.”

Unit 5 of Asnaes power station uses coal as its main fuel and oil as a reserve fuel. Unit 4 of Studstrup power station uses coal, oil and biomass as fuels.
