The approval enables DTE Energy to buy all of the energy produced at the 9,000-acre wind farm, in Tuscola, Bay and Saginaw counties in Michigan, US, through the $485m PPA.

NextEra Energy Resources, a parent company of Tuscola Bay Wind, will own the wind project, which is in the engineering phase with construction expected to begin next year and take six to nine months to complete.

The wind power project is expected to be operational late next year, and is enough to power about 30,000 homes.

DTE Energy said the wind farm also represents a $250m investment in the community that over 30 years is expected to generate $50m in lease payments to landowners, $19m in property taxes and provide $21m in wages and benefits.
