DEWA has reserved AED100m ($27.2m) for the station, while the remaining AED5m ($1.3m) is for laying cables and connecting it to the main network.

The authority undertook the project as part of its efforts to increase electricity transmission capacity and to meet the growing demand of electricity.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority MD and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer said the new project aims to strengthen the capacity of the authority’s networks to provide electricity in the Dubai Marina area.

"We have extended an additional 320 metres of 132 kV ground cables to connect the new substation to the main distribution station at The Palm Jumeirah, and the distribution station in Jebel Ali, which will result in increased stability of supplies to our customers, at all times," Tayer added.

The new station features latest technologies to provide reliable and efficient power supply and serve Dubai’s ambitious growth plans.

The authority is also constructing another 17 substations apart from upgrading the existing ones and introducing new technologies in line with the highest international standards.
