Germany’s E.On is continuing its expansion strategy in North America with the completion of what will be one of the largest wind farms in the USA.

The utility has announced that it has completed construction of Panther Creek, a 457.5 MW wind farm in Texas. It is also building a 780 MW wind farm at Roscoe, Texas, and a 53 MW wind farm in Pennsylvania.

Panther Creek consists of 305 turbines and was built in three separate phases. The first two phases became operational in the first quarter of 2009 and completion of the final phase makes the facility one of the ten largest wind farms in the USA.

E.On views the USA as an important market for its renewable energy expansion strategy. The company is one of the fastest-growing renewable energy concerns in the world and is making investments of EUR8 billion in renewable energy and climate protection activities worldwide from 2007 to 2011.
