The LoI envisages co-operation in the construction of E.ON’s new nuclear power stations in the UK. As part of this framework, E.ON will use Areva’s 1,600MW advanced pressurized water reactor (EPR) and Siemens’s conventional island to construct new nuclear power stations in the UK.

E.ON has also agreed to collaborate on further developing Areva’s SWR1000 boiling-water reactor in the 1,250MW range. Together with the EPR, this reactor is reportedly regarded as offering maximum safety for use in nuclear power generation.

E.ON aims to use this model for its new power stations with an electricity-generating capacity in the intermediate capacity range. With this co-operation agreement, E.ON also gets access to the latest nuclear and power engineering.

The three companies also intend to collaborate on R&D. Part of this co-operation agreement, is the mutual exchange of experts to ensure that the common development work is as efficient as possible. In addition, E.ON and Areva are entering into a long-term service and maintenance partnership for existing and new nuclear power stations.
