The company has built a wireless mesh networks under ground to support the features of wearable device iWristPhone, which features WiFi and Bluetooth, GPS and gravity sensor capable of detecting miners falling sick and being trapped.

The system also features a three megapixel camera for video calls between mining workers and control rooms above ground.

EasyM2M Technologies has joined forces with Eastern Coalfields (ECL), operator of 105 coal mines in the country to launch the WiFi service and wrist phones.

The Economic Times reported EasyM2M Technologies founder Priya Ranjan Kumar as saying: "One miner dies every third day.

"A lot of time is lost in miners trying to communicate to the surface during an accident, emergency, or even for quick advice on how to fix a machine."
