A 1.3MW ground mount solar array will be installed at Eaton’s Beaver facility and a 200kW rooftop array will be installed at Eaton’s Vanport Township facility in Coraopolis, which will together generate 1.76 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity.
US- based Tangent will provide on-site solar generation assets for the project and also monitor and maintain the facilities over their life cycle.
Motech Industries will supply solar panels for the systems while Eaton will provide Power Xpert solar inverters, electrical disconnects, combiner boxes and other equipment.
Eaton manager Renewable Energy Segment John Vernacchia said, "We chose Tangent for this project because they understand the more complex energy systems of large, industrial companies."
Tangent Energy Solutions president and chief executive officer Dean Musser said, "The natural fit of Eaton’s equipment, engineering and construction capabilities, with our development, technology and energy experience was the success formula for these projects."
Eaton will also provide engineering and construction management services for the project which is expected to save energy costs over the 20-year term.
Under the terms of a long-term power purchase agreement, Eaton will purchase the energy produced by the installations.
Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Financing Authority has provided a grant for the project, which is also financed by Laurel Capital of Radnor and First Niagara Bank of Buffalo.
The project is expected to complete by November 2012.
