To be called Tianjin Eco-Power Technology Company, the JV will manufacture and distribute ECOtality charging products for a wide range of EVs. A new assembly facility will come up in the City of Tianjin in China, as part of the operations of the JV.

ECOtality CEO Jonathan Read said the formation of the JV with Changchun Eco-Power Technology allows the company to address the vast opportunity that lies in Chinese EV market.

"China is rapidly expanding its leadership position in the electric vehicle market by implementing fleets and public transit applications that require high-power charging solutions like ECOtality produces," adds Read.

The country recently adopted its 12th Five-Year Plan that calls for developing the country’s EV industry. As part of the plan 2,000 charging stations with 400,000 EV chargers in more than 20 pilot cities are expected to come up across China by 2015.
