Construction on the 125-turbine wind farm, located within Roosevelt county roughly 18 miles southwest of Portales, commenced in January last year.
The 2MW turbines from Danish turbine maker Vestas will generate clean electricity that will be enough to power 138,000 average New Mexico homes, according to US Energy Information Administration.
Under a fixed-price power purchase agreement, Southwestern Public Service Company, a subsidiary of Xcel Energy, will purchase the electricity generated at the project for a period of 20 years.
EDF Renewable Energy executive vice president Ryan Pfaff said: "EDF RE is pleased to have commenced commercial operation of the Roosevelt Wind Project – our first facility in the business-friendly state of New Mexico, and would like to thank the residents of Roosevelt County and surrounding areas for helping us reach this important milestone.
"We are also excited to again be working with Southwestern Public Service Company to supply clean, competitively-priced electricity to its customers for years to come."
The project is said to prevent close to 725,000 metric tons of new greenhouse gas emissions per year.
The company acquired the wind farm from Infinity Wind Power in January 2014.
