The IPC has 28 days from the day after the date of receipt of the application to decide whether to accept or reject the application for the proposed plant, which will be located at Hinkley Point in Somerset.
The IPC said that if the application is accepted, it will then be examined by IPC commissioners.
Following the examination, if the localism bill is enacted in the parliament, the IPC will make a recommendation to the energy secretary who will make the final decision whether or not to grant consent for the development of the power project.
