Spanning across 14,000 acres in Floyd and Briscoe Counties, 60 miles northeast of Lubbock, the project is expected to begin construction before the end of 2013 to qualify for the production tax credit.

EDF Renewable Energy has signed a long-term, fixed-price hedge agreement for output of the project, while RES Americas will be responsible for the construction of the project under balance-of-plant construction contract.

The project will supply electricity to the grid via the CREZ (competitive renewable energy zone) transmission lines connecting the wind generating capacity of the Texas Panhandle to high electricity demand areas in the state.

EDF Renewable Energy executive vice president Ryan Pfaff said the latest project represents its third wind project acquisition in the Texas Panhandle in 2013.

"Longhorn brings EDF Renewable Energy’s near-term capacity under either late-stage development or construction in the area to 561MW, including the previously announced Hereford and Spinning Spur II transactions," added Pfaff.
