According to the company, this price change is because of rising wholesale prices and non-energy costs, such as higher network charges and new environmental obligations.

The change amounts to an increase of £1.31 per week on a nationally averaged typical dual fuel direct debit bill.

EDF said that it is increasing its standard residential gas unit prices for the first time since 2009.

Other energy suppliers such as British Gas, Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), npower, Scottish Power and E.ON have recently hiked electricity and gas prices in the UK.
